Ball pythons Where do you buy?

Palex134 Feb 24, 2004 01:45 PM

Where do you buy your BPs. At shows or breeders or Pet stores what is my best bet for buying a BP?

I prefer buying snakes from breeders at reptile shows. With a petstore they usually can't tell you much about the snakes (date of birth, breeder name, etc) and you run the risk of being wild caught. A good breeder will give you all kinds of info (preferably a written records) of your snakes eating, feeding, weights, date of birth, etc. Some of the online breeders get good reviews, but again I prefer to be able to interact with a potential purchase.

Regardless of where you get it, make sure it is captive bred and born in the US or other non-African country. This will eliminate 99% of the problems you will encounter with ball pythons. Other than that, they can be found just about anywhere. I would personally go with a reliable breeder, as they can help you on down the road with breeding, etc. Breeders are your best bet. Keep away from imported ball pythons!
