Understanding the importance of feeding calcium to baby leo's!!!???

Gilbery007 Feb 24, 2004 02:31 PM

Hi all, until 3 days ago i have only just realised the importance of feeding calcium to growing baby leos. Yesterday i fully realised my baby leo (3 months old) had a limp on her front left leg, as usual i put a post on this forum to ask for advice on what it could be. I got a reply from Laura who advised me on what it could be and how to tackle it. Since i have only had 2 leos for 4 months im not that experienced in the husbandry of sick leos. I now know that my baby leo has got MBD. Due to not dusting feeders in my case being crickets (3rd size) my baby is suffering, if i havnt caught it in time and she has the same happen to her front right meaning both front legs i can not see her being able to eat crickets. I now have to sit and wait for the next few weeks to see what happens. From now on today i have learnt the importance of feeding calcium dusted feeder to our cold blooded friends especially those little ones.

RULE OF THUMB
DUST THOSE FEEDERS!! EVEN IF IT KILLS YA
FROM NOW ON OUT I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO DUST MY CRICKETS
AND BELIEVE ME TO A BABY LEO EVERY DUSTED CRICKET COUNTS
SO DONT SHIRK THIS VERY EASY TASK

I'm glad you now understand how important supplementation is, and I'm also glad you posted this. Sometimes, we learn things the hard way. Baby geckos are growing and their bones are developing, so calcium is a very important factor. Hopefully, your little one will recover, and the progress of the MBD was stopped before it was too late.

Also put a calcium dish in the enclosure.

I had a calcium dish in wih my baby but u just cant rely on the leo to actually use it. So still even tho u provide it u still need to dust those feeder insects.Gilbery007

I know, thats what is annoying. I have never seen my leo lick her calcium but some people go on about how theres use it all the time.

I've never really thought about providing calcium for my babies, but now, i see why I should, and do so.

When u think to urself, i cant be bothered to dust the feeders today just make sure you imagine ur little baby leo's not being able to use there front legs and eventually starving. Which we all know is horrible but when u think of that im sure you will dust those feeders. Gilbery007
