Question about breeding Madagascan hogs

Jim_H Feb 24, 2004 03:24 PM

I recently purchased an adult male Malagasy Speckled Hognose (Leioheterodon geayi) and I am picking up an adult female this weeekend. They are both WC, but have have been in captuivity for a few years and are well acclimated. My question is: Since Madagascar is in the southern hemisphere and therefor the seasons are reversed, should I brumate them to during my summer months or try to establish them on a northern hemisphere schedule? Brumating them during my winter would be a little more convienient for me, but I don't want to cause any undo stress on the animals or have them not breed just because of this. Has anyone out there had success breeding Speckleds or either of the other two Madagascan hogs?

Thank you,
Jim
