Starting a new colony of mice

Cuda Feb 24, 2004 03:58 PM

I want to start breeding my own feeder mice. The consumption is;
4-5 pinkies
12-15 hoppers
10-12 adults
per month

How many males.Females do i need to achieve this or more?

Thanks
Ben

I would say 4 females can produce that at an average of 8 babies per month. You could run this with 1 male. You will need to plan ahead for replacing breeders and time and room to grow the adults that you need. That is the minimum I would do. I prefer to have too many rodents in the freezer and have to throw a few away every now and again than to run short.
