Ok to remove moist hide at night?

newkid Feb 24, 2004 05:33 PM

Is it ok to remove the moist hide at night so that I can see my lil buddy more than once a day? My moist hide is a coconut shell with a butter lid under it to help it maintain some humidity. I have papertowels torn into pieces inside it as well which i mist with water. He absolutely loves it. Unfortunately its totally dark inside his hide and I never get to see him. Is this selfish of me? Also I just dont care for the looks of the ziploc containers, this coconut seems to be working very well. I was told he may come out more in a few months, but I want to see him NOW lol.

Thanks

Re arranging his furniture and removing it causes stress, if you want to see him more, let him get comfortable and view him at night with a red light

if you do not allow the gecko to get settled in, it'll never be comfortable coming out on his own. I know it's hard to do, it's like getting a new girl friend and not being able to see her for a couple weeks because she's busy.

I don't think it's going to take months for the gecko to get used to his environment though, maybe a few weeks...
