Hybridizing Bismark Ringed Pythons?

toddbecker Feb 24, 2004 05:33 PM

I have been pondering the thought for awhile now whether or not it would be worthwhile to attempt to breed a ringed python with another species. I am in awe with the ringeds and would think that the banding and incredible irridescence would look incredible mixed with almost any other snake. My only dilema is I haven't been able to think of a good candidate to try this hybridization with. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Todd

I don't have any comment on hybradizing but wondered where you got care requirements from for the ringed python.I haven't found anything on them and maybe you could tellme how you care for yours.

I honastly do not have any at the moment but I plan on getting 2.4 of them later this year. I can not remember the members name but there is a person that is on these forums that has given me information on them before. I also have had a hard time finding any specific information about them. I will look more diligently these next few days and I will post a message if I find anything usefull. Todd

Thank you so much Toddbecker. That would be very helpful.

Don't do it please.

You know, they will be yours to do with as you wish, but if you do produce hybrids of ringed pythons and any other species, keep them as your own oddity and do what you need to keep them from becoming part of the captive gene pool of either species.

Enjoy your snakes,

if I am able to successfully create a beautiful snake then I will market them. What I am planning is no different then what is happening in the ball market. Yes balls are still bred with other balls but it is the breeders that are controlling the outcome of the offspring. I mean honastly what are the chances of a killerbee spider ball python being created in the wild. Never happen. So yes I would be messing with the gene pool a little but no more than any breeder than starts combining morphs. Todd

There is a big difference with the selective breeding of balls, they are all still nothing but ball pythons. Not anything else mixed in. I do not understand how hybrids have any market value at all. Dont see any big rush for a Saint Bernard chihuahua mixes do you ? I'm not trying to offend you but I really hope it doesnt work.

Just my opinion but one I share with many.

Just go with what seems closely related to it. I think Liasis fuscus would be your best bet. But other possibilities are Macklott's and White Lips. And it's a stretch, but none of these are guaranteed or proven compatible, but crossing it to a Woma would be cool looking. But for all of these, definitely use a male Ringed and females of all the others. Come to think of it, you could try Antaresia too, Spotteds and Children's.
I kinda share the opinions of others, but they're not being constructive to your goals. I just wonder what they will look like. And a chance of 'not' being fugly as adults (generally speaking). And I think the Borneo x Balls are pretty cool looking, Carpondros too. And the Dicarplot wasn't too bad too. Good luck and don't get your hopes up.

What IS a Dicarplot?

pythonjosh Feb 26, 2004 08:42 PM

Here ya go. I used to have a pic but I must have deleted it a while ago. But one parent is a Diamond x Jungle (or coastal?) Carpet and the other is a Macklott's Python. DIamond x CARPet x mackLOT. Looked like a Macklott with a faded carpet pattern. Only ever heard of one. It's been a while so my memory might not be right, but I 'think' NERD had it. Just tried to hunt down a pic on google, but no success. Good luck hunting down the pic, maybe someone here has a pic. Later,
Josh
