That sounds like a lot if you're just looking at gallons for fish, but uros aren't fish. Don't think in terms of gallons of water - think, instead, in terms of floor space and the size of your lizard.

Uros are very active and they are terrestrial, which means they need plenty of floor space to run around in. Minimum would be more like 4x2x2.

There's a guideline to consider: the 4x2. How long will the lizard be from snout to tail as an adult? Multiply that by four to get the minimum length of cage, and by two to get the minimum width. This works out ok for a Saharan (from 9-13" adult length) in a 4x2x2 cage. It works less well for a Mali (11-16" adult length).

If you try for a smaller cage, you cannot get proper heat gradients, the animal lacks for activity and exercise, plus it adds greatly to the stress. I nearly lost my male adult WC because his quarantine cage was too small - he stopped eating from the stress and nearly died until I moved him.

Yeah, Ra absolutely HATED it when I had to put him in a smaller tank for a while. I was visiting family and needed a tank for him since I had no room for his big tank in my car with all my travelling stuff. Boy, was he ever P.O'd with me! He didn't come out much at all (although he still ate) and he actually hissed at me when I just looked at him!! He sent me the message loud and clear "If you put me in this stupid thing again I'll bite you!" Well, I learned my lesson and bought him a 40-gallon Rubbermaid tub (the lid from his big tank fits on it too ). The next time I visited my family, Ra was very content with his new travelling tank (there's a lot of floorspace in this tub, took me a while to find a good one).

Always go bigger with uro tanks if you can

By the way, Ra hasn't hissed at me since so the rule is "always listen to your uro"

all of them say that they are good in a 40gal breeder. even the breeder that i got mine from said that all he would need is a 40 gal. 2'x2' is bigger then the floor space of a 40 gal.
