Luna update...

lele Feb 24, 2004 06:18 PM

As some of you know Luna became receptive in early Dec. didn't mate and has been driving me nuts ever since! I don't think her body knows what to do! She is up to 96g, eating, drinking and just having a grand ol' time.

The way I set up her laying tub was I took a dead scheff (very old plant - have had it for about 20 years!) that I was going to toss but it has a real cool, twisty stem so I "planted" it in a big pot with sterile, plain soil and sand. I have a 40w light on it to keep soil warm and make it noticeable. Well, it has become a late afternoon basking site. We have a little ritual after her MV bulb goes out (I'll spare you the details! LOL!)

Anyway.............I looked in her cage today and she was no where to be seen in her upper branches. I looked down and she was on her way to the pot on her own (this was a first - I have always put her down there). She didn't dig but hung out on the soil for quite awhile, ate some, and then basked for about an hour and then came back up.

I am HOPING that this means the time is near (I have been saying that for months!). Sorry to ramble. Here's a blurry pic. This was after her basking but decided to just hang out on the scheff "stem."

for almost a whole week before she laid the eggs.
She would go to the bottom and just hang out on the dirt a couple of minutes. Once she dug a test hole then changed her mind and two days after the test hole she finished digging in the same spot and laid the eggs.
Make sure the dirt is damp enough to hold a deep tunnel without collapsing but not too wet or soggy.
Let me know when the time comes. I have been waiting to exhale all the way from Florida.

yeah, well you'll probably faint from no oxygen long before she lays! She did NOT make her ground tour today AND she is eating again! Not much, just one super and one silkie...I think she is enjoying her new dripper so much that she is saying - "ah, the heck with this egg thing, I don't want to leave my water spa!"
