Mark B. probly is your best bet on this subject.
As for my own monitors, my male croc was 8 foot 4 inches and over 40lbs.. , my male water which is still growing is currently 6 foot and around 40 lbs., my male argus is 5 foot and 15lbs., I do not have any male mangroves, the biggest female I have is 3 1/2 foot and probly around 5 lbs. .
I dunnno what good this info. is to you. As there is varience within species as far as there size comes into concern. Just cause mine are this size doesn't mean yours will be or won't exceed mine.
I was just wondering, because we have an adult male argus that is almost 6' and weighs 20lbs. We also have an adult male mangrove that is also just about 6'. We haven't weighed him yet, but I would guess around 30lbs. Our Mangrove is the biggest I have ever seen, so I was mainly concerned with the record on mangroves. Thanks for the info.
I have seen quite a few large mangroves. Most of them are 5-6 foot and 20lbs though not 30. They are always males I have yet to see a large female. Makes me wonder why not???? What good is a 3 foot 5lb. female to a 6 foot 20lb. male?? LOL hardly seems right does it?
I myself would prefer to have closer to the average size, if it is a real large male then you'll have a heck of a time finding a female thats compatible with it.
He lives in Florida, it was in the classifieds. I asked for pics and it seemed to be 5ft maybe and the dude holding it was as you said a real short guy. It was overweight at probably 15 to 20lbs, but nowhere near 6ft or 30lbs. Ill see if I got the pics yet, included are references by the 2 level cages and a door in the background for reference. Id really like to see this 6ft mangrove and a 6ft argus. The biggest argus Ive ever seen (minus his tail, broken very young)has been my friends argus "T" whos 16lbs 7 ounces (if entirely intact hed probably be over 5.5ft long), he was supposed to have been 20lbs and obese as well very lazy when he was first brought to the reptile rescue. Hes in great shape strong as a tank and active now.
Oh come on man, that argus Mr. T is not any bigger then my male.
Stop Lieing LOL
That mangrove was for sale as a male, then all of a sudden was posted as a female that supposedly dropped egg's. Haha I believe that NOT It looked 100% male to me in the pictures and very obese. It also wasn't 6 foot or it would of been alot longer then the guy holding it. I know him and he is a wee fella. But hey can't all be Big studs like myself LOL
I think I may have the pictures here if you cannot find them to post.
I would love to see a six foot argus and or a six foot mangrove. If possible, please posts some pics.
I have seen ozzie V.p.panoptes, over six feet, but never an indo individual even close.
Heres a pic i took today, trade you for a pic of a six foot argus. FR

I will measure both of them today. I said about 6'. They might be just under, but we'll see today. The argus is just over 20lbs. We weighed him yesterday. I will weigh the mangrove today. Thanks for all the replys.

Here are the pics. This is the male Argus. He measured 5.5' and weighed exactly 22lbs.
Please get rid of this post. If my wife sees this I'll never get my male.....Just kidding. Nice argus though.
This is the male Mangrove. He also measured 5.5' His weight was less than I thought but still pretty heavy. He weighed 19lbs. Also I have heard that there is a new subspecies of Mangrove known as Varanus juxtindicus. I was told that our mangrove is this type. Is this true or are they just trying to reclassify indicus again. Thanks.
That Mangrove looks to be the same local as my 3 1/2 foot females. I do not see them often anymore, I see the solomons type with the orange colored heads, and the yellow spots on the back are spread farther out, they also can have a faded banded back.
I am not eactly sure the locality of thse mangroves that appear like yours. Juxtindicus is a large mangrove said to reach 6 foot, It has a dark background color, usually a dark throat, and a longer build to it.
How old is that male you have? Looks to me he is around 5 or more?? My girls are both 4 years old and only slightly different in size. Both lay eggs every year but have no male.
The Mangrove I would guess is around 10-12 years. We have had him for about 7 years. He was just a tiny bit smaller when we got him.
There are no web pages I know of with such specific information on giant monitor sizes reported, but here are some on top of my head for you:
V. salvator: 10'3" (1896); V. komodoensis: 10'2" (1927); V. albigularis: 7'3 (1961); V. niloticus: 7'11" 3/4 (1992); V. salvadorii: 10' (2004); V. juxtindicus: 6'2" (2002); V. indicus: 6' (2002); V. giganteus: 7'0" (1942).
