Feeding question

GemTwist Jun 09, 2003 08:42 PM

I feed my 1 year old beardie mostly a variety of greens and veggies with crickets and wax worms and pinkies on occasion. I was wondering if it would be possible to teach him to eat pellets as well to give him more of a variety in his diet. I have tried leaving some in his dish but he doesn't touch them. I have also tried mixing them in with his regular food and he still won't eat them. Is there a way to teach him that the pellets are food too?

I've had alot of problems with pellets ever since my beardie grew up... He use to eat them, but doesn't really anymore. But when he was younge he use to eat them if I droped them in his cage.. Gave them alittle motiiiiiion.. ;P... But it's nothing to get worked up about the greens, cricks, worms are good either way.

Mine won't eat pellets at all...now I feed them to the crickets LOL. I have tried soaking them in water (the pellets not the crickets of course)and soaking them in juice...he ignores them, eating around the piles of greens the pellets rest on. I even tried hoping a rather long pellet and wiggled it..he watched it for awhile but made no attempt to eat it. I even got him to gape at me and put a bit of the pellet in his mouth..he just spits them out without any indication he liked them or not.

I just feel some dragons don't like the pellets..maybe because they smell like old hay. But since he eats all the mixed greens I give him and his insects, I am not worrying about it. Only tried the pellets as I got them at about 75% off at a petstore. Otherwise, I found them over priced to buy just to find out if my beardie would eat them. Certainly glad I didn't buy them at regular price.
