Efficacy of snake traps and deterrents
I am slowly getting into the business of snake removal out of necessity (for the snakes!). The money sure is tempting, what I have made thus far has been enough to cover one student loan payment. My question is about the the practical use of snake traps and deterrents.
I have no problem relying on the old grab and wrestle method, in fact I spent over an hour underneath a house last week. But when I came up empty-handed I felt as though there's something that I should have prepared in cases like these where I can not physically find the snake. In this case I was at the home of a plastic surgeon, who has no problem paying for every minute I spend there and any necessary tools I need. When I could not find the snake I felt obligated to offer him some other alternative. I've recently purchased the Snake Guard and Snake-A-Way products and I have to wonder how well they work, especially since it is my budding reputation on the line.
I've read the directions, I've read the statistics, I've read the information on the Web but I have not heard from is anybody who has actually used these with or without any success. I plan to use the snake trap where I cannot find the snake although I know it is there. I think I'll use the snake away product just to appease the demands of the homeowner that SOMETHING be done.
Does anybody have any advice to offer, as far as the use of these products that is not listed on the directions? Any other advice as far as starting out as a snake removal service? When I am done with my thesis work this summer and have more time, I plan to get a business license and advertise. I think I can save a lot of black rats from the chopping block.
By the way, I am in southeastern Virginia and the most common snakes we see around here are black rats and Kingsnake's.
