Questions about wood

Does anyone out there know anything about using palo verde wood in a vivarium. Specifically, will it rot if left in with 70-80% humidity? Is the sap dangerous? Is there any way I can take care of the above concerns by curing it. It's for a creasted gecko enclosure, and I can't stomach paying money for sticks.
