i am surprised no one has stepped up with info for you!
unfortunately i don't have any info for you.
anyway, i have a gecko that has one small eye and one larger eye. i have yet to decide which eye is actually the "normal" one of the two. i was not ever planning to breed her, i just have female leos for the hobby of them. but.... if i was a breeder, i would never breed her. i would be afraid to pass the trait on!
i bought her offline. in the pictures, one could not see a problem with her eye. to be honest, i probably would have never purchased her had i known. gee, what does that say about me ????!!!!!
well.... she has turned out to be one of my sweetest leos
as for breeding the larger eyed geckos.....
i can't see that it is harmful to their health as long as the eyes are functional. i would guess that it is not a "desirable" trait

Hi
I also had, had a male gecko, that when I purchased it had one eye bigger than the other, but I didn't care, because I just wanted to love the little guy.
This gecko "little one" was fine for about two years and then one day I noticed that he wasn't seeing out of the bigger eye that well, took him to the vet. and yes, he had basically lost pretty much all of his site in that eye. After awhile I noticed his head almost always tilted to one side and that was so he could hunt for crickets of which he did fine.
One day with "little one" I notice he was a little funny with his good eye and took him to the vet. and yes, he was slowly loosing his sight. I believe by watching him that he wound up having like foggie tunnel vision with it. I would move my hand in front of him and he could see some movement. Then I noticed he was using his tunnel vision in that eye, but mostly using his hearing to find crickets and he was doing pretty good at it. I would supplement him with a babyfood mixture now and then to make sure he was getting enough food. Near the end of his third year of life though he did pass away. He had been parasite free and all that. It had hurt to loose him and exspecially when he had all that stacked against him, but yet he still did pretty good.

I hadn't noticed this before, until this post started. As I've mentioned before, I have a very deformed leo (no calcium given by previous owner) and while I was watching her hunt down crickets today, I noticed that her eyes are very "bug-eyed" Not quite as much as in the picture, but pretty darn close. I wonder if calcium deficiency growing up would have anything to do with these eye problems? Maybe just lack of proper nutrition could cause the eyes to be deformed? That might explain why the leo TLB got had the problems and it's eyes just deteriorated so bad. I don't know, hmmm...just wondering. But I will say I've never noticed her eyes looking like that, but that would be because I don't have her next to another leo to compare. Thanks!

Hi
I had gotten him from the pet store when he was approx. four months old and he did have proper neutrion and calcium. He already had the eye difference when I got him. Geckos are born this way if they are going to have the problem. Genetic.

we had a normal phase leo at the refuge here and he was so beautiful, unfortunatly he contracted a disease that rendered his pernamantly damaged and closed, poor guy took a turn for the worse and never recovered, one of the visitors said her had the same problem with eye infections. sorry for the blues but keep an eye on your wide-eyed bud.
My girl is around 10 years old & is doing great.. I´ve had her for about a year or 2..
Both eyes are that big.
It seems to be a very common thing but noone seems to know that much about it..
She´s my breeding girl & noone of her offspring has those eyes..
But now that I have red that it´s something you shouldn´t breed on I don´t know what to do.. So thats why I thought someone here knew something about it.. Probobly I have to get another girl for my breeding male & let her go alone..
yes- see leopard gecko manual, p.8. though i'm sure this could be caused by environmental stuff, when both eyes are big, it's probably a genetic trait. it's not desirable b/c its effects aren't known. like, it's not the average state of leo's eyes, and so it's probably detrimental, if it hasn't already been selected for (via evolution). also, the general idea is that, if something looks weird on the outside, there might be something weird on the inside, that we can't see. you really shouldn't be breeding her. my guess is that all of her offspring probably carry the recessive genetics for it. on the other hand, it sould just be an aesthetic thing. to me, normal leos always look kind of stoned & pleased with themselves. so, bug-eye leos look (to me) like they're all caffeinated.
does her vision seeem normal? is she able to close her eyes? if not, then i would definitely not breed her anymore.

She is doing great.. Nothing that I have noticed about her eyes.. She can close them & she finds the crickets.. I´m gonna look more in to that so she dosen´t go by her hearing..
I´m not gonna breed on her anymore..
