Need help identifying a turtle

adh351t Feb 25, 2004 10:31 AM

I'm a snake person--not so good with turtles...an employee of mine has a turtle she bought at a pet shop that they called an "African Java Turtle" (never heard of it--sounds made-up to me but I could e wrong). I was thinking it was some sort of slider? I will attempt to post some pictures here that she took of it. She believes it to be female.

It is definitely aquatic and she is using a setup like that of a common North American slider. It behaves just like our native U.S. pond turtles but I don't think it is from the U.S.

Any help would be appreciated--I have researched this like crazy and can't seem to get anywhere. I suppose it is possible that this turtle could be an intergrade or hybrid also...

Definately a made up common name by someone who knows little about geography. Particularly since the island of Java is in Indonesia.
