Uneaten Crickets...

LeeSlikkers Feb 25, 2004 12:10 PM

I have been feeding my adult AFT's crickets mostly as their staple food with a dish of mealworms in if they feel the need to snack but was wondering if I should remove any uneaten crickets in the morning for fear of the crix chewing or eating on my geckos? I typically drop 5-6 large crix in a night and most of them are gone by morning but occasionally there are 2 or 3 left over and when I lift up the hide sometimes the crix are in the hide with the gecko...

Any thoughts?

I would take them out, when I used to feed crickets they usually would never get into the hide (the humid hide has a hole on top and it's shaped in a way that crickets can't climb on it). So the geckos were able to avoid being bothered by the crickets to some extent. But when I see the crix feeding on the feces of the geckos, that drove me to keep taking them out and eventually I switched to all mealworms.

Thanks Sal....

I think I could get my male to swtich over to all mealies cause his dish of them is usually empty in the mornin but there is always a few crix left running around...maybe he is lazy and doesn't enjoy the chase LOL

My two females on the other hand look as if they rarely touch the dish of mealies but their crix are usually gone in the morning. I guess if I didn't put in crix for a 3 day period and only offered the mealies I could gauge if they would be willing to make the switch. I just am hesitant to try it since they are both gravid and I'd hate to not give them every bit of nutrience they are needing right now.

Thanks again,

Lee
