I think Jade is going to lay, but ......

taralynn_hughes Feb 25, 2004 01:08 PM

WE thought jade was about to lay about 3 weeks ago, but she still hasn't. She was digging around our umbrella plant, but she hasn't done anything yet. She has two big potted plants she could lay in, as well as a sand soil combination in a deep container. 3 days ago she started digging in her large pothos that we have mounted to the top inside of her cage on the support beams. She is making a mess now. She is throwing all the soil over the side of the pot, so it is everywhere. She's got the back third of the pot completely empty of any soil. I'm not sure if I should just let her dig, or if I should fill it in with soil after she finishes her little dig fest. She's killing the plant slowly.
She also stopped eating right before this, which is strange for her because she is a big eater! She won't even give you the chance to zip tie her cricket container in before she starts to eat.
Any advice?

See the pardalis profile at

for a description of a good laying chamber. It works for just about all egg layers.
