Eggs in jeopardy

MichHerper Jun 09, 2003 09:29 PM

A while back while candling some of the cornsnake eggs I noticed little bugs running around the eggs. They didn't seem attached or anything, just little white bugs running around. At first I thought this was normal, something in the spagnum moss or somethign but I changed them over to vermiculite today. I am concerned with some of the eggs. Some appear translucent and even weakened in some areas. I don't know if the spagnum moss kept them too wet or what. They are at 82 degrees around 80 percent humidity. Any idea on what is going on and how I can fix or atleast halt what is happening? I've never seen eggs do this. I am only about 25 days into incubation.

Thanks,
Jeff

I am not sure what to do about the white bugs, however, translucent windows in the eggs are not all that uncommen. Some could have weak spots from the very start for some reason (lack of nutrition to the mother?) But some will also develop when they get too much moisture and the egg absorbs and streches too much. Eggs with windows often hatch fine, just be careful not to keep them too moist.
