Heat Lamp, or Undertank Heater

monocledcobra Feb 25, 2004 02:46 PM

I just wanted to know quick, if using an undertank heater or a heat lamp was better for an Irian Jaya, or Jungle carept python. If a lamp is better, what wattage should I use for a hatchling?

Either will work fine. You may want to use both for heat during the night. Wattage will depend on your setup, and you are the only one who can answer that by taking temps under the basking area and throughout the cage. Make sure there is a range of temps for your snake.

Whichever would be more convenient for you to maintain temps..In my opinion a uth or a lamp either one would be a sufficient heat source as long as you provide a basking spot,a cool spot, and a hide.If space will allow provide a cool and warm hide.

I have a yearling and I house her in a 40 gallon breeder size tank with an UTH and 2 lights. One is a basking light about 100 watts and the other light is a red light for night time heat. Both are on timers. "Safari" is doing fine with this setup.
