Where can I find a black rat snake? I can't seem to find them in any petstores.

dwight good has some, myexotics has them.. check the classifieds ads.

but before doing any of that, check your local and state laws. they're fairly illegal in some states. If you dont know where to start, call the game commission. They should be able to tell you.

Brian at BHB also has them. And "joliff" who posts here fairly regularly has them also. As mentioned above, some states have some pretty strong regs regarding them. Let us know what state you live in, and someone may be able to fill you in. They are great animals, as are all the N. AM Ratsnakes. Good luck. Duffy

...find them in any petstores. You are really MUCH better off getting them from a reputable breeder in terms of both cost and quality of animals. Any reptile shows in your area? That's always MY first choice. :D

Dwight Good does have some black rats for sale. I was just on his web. page yesterday. He had listed a male & female 03, as well as an older 02. Good luck.

Click on EVENTS at the top of the page. I just did and found that there is a Birmingham show almost every month. You just missed the Feb show. Looks like the next one is 3/20. Hopefully you are not too far away. :D

I also live in AL and attend the Dixie Reptile Show almost every month. With the exception of occasional amelanistic specimens, I don't remember seeing Black Rats there over the last year. That doesn't mean they won't be there in March. You would have better chances later this summer after the hatching season. Now, if you don't really want to wait, I can highly recommend Dwight Good's animals. I've bought 6 Obsoleta from him and I've been very happy with all of them. On top of that, you'll never find a breeder more dedicated to good customer service. If you have more questions about the Birmingham Show, drop me an e-mail.

Unofficial poll here, but how many Southerners do we have on the list? I went to the Dixie Show last May and bought 2 young adult Black Rats that were probably wild-caught in someone's barn. Black Rats aren't legal for sale in my state so I went "over the border".

Yeah, the next Dixie show is March 20.
I am going to drive down from Tennessee and meet lovelyleopards, from the corn snake forum, down there.
I went once about a year ago and thought I would go back down and check it out. Thought it would be nice to meet a few people from the forums.
If you are planning to go let me know and I will look you up.
It is always interesting to put faces to the names we see everyday.
Jimmy
