How Big Will My New Male Burmese Python Get?

fshrman Feb 25, 2004 04:44 PM

I just purchased a burmese python, I want an animal that will get bigger then 6 foot. I am wanting him to top out at around 10 feet. Could I limit their size by reducing the size of his prey. Let me know.

they will usually be around 10-12 feet. Stunting their growth by limiting prey is cruel. How do you know it is a male? if it is a female it could get up to 20 feet.

I answered this down a bit in the other thread about this same topic. It is unsafe for your snake as well as for you to do as you are planning. Todd

Feed your python lots and lots of rodents, then rabbits. When it gets to be 10 feet long, sell it or give it to someone who wants a BIG snake. Then buy a new one and start all over again. Really. That’ll work.

More seriously, you may be surprised how reasonably small and manageable many adult male Burmese pythons are. At 12 to 14 feet, one might weigh in at only 50 pounds. Not so big. Really. That’ll work, won’t it?
