Rat help!!

jimroot4 Feb 25, 2004 05:32 PM

I noticed that my rats had lice. I breed them for my snake. I am pretty sure my boas are fine but is there anything else I should worry about. I would like some pro rat breeders experience with this if I could. Thanks.

Mites or lice that end up on rats don't usually tranfer to cold blooded animals. However, you should treat your rodents as soon as possible anyway. Mites and lice can transfer illness between rodents, etc...and your rats are probably very unhappy with the fact that they're being chewed up.

You can get some mite and lice spray at the pet store for this. Spray your hands and rub it into the rat. Don't spray it directly on the rat because you don't want to get it in their eyes or for them to inhale it. You should also spray the cage every time you change the bedding and change the bedding more frequently until the mites or lice are gone.

Thanks a lot for the help. I need to help the cute little things before I kill them. J/K. Thanks though.
