Worms in cornsnake(long)

seth Feb 25, 2004 07:55 PM

Hi,
I have a two year old male snow corn and i took him to the vet today to get a check up and a fecal done. The vet found hookworms and prescribed pancure for him. I am supposed to give him .34 cc in the mouth, but he doesn't want to have anything to do with it. I held him behind the head so he couldn't move and was going to have someone else squirt it in, but he would not open his mouth and since this is the first time I'm doing this i'm a little worried about hurting if i try to open his mouth. So any tips you could give me on getting him to open up woould be greatly apperciated.
Thanks,
Seth

well i have used a credit card for large snakes (ie my friends 7 ft black rat snake) and a bussiness card for my little cornsnake who i though had mouth rot but it just turns out she had a little piece of something on her "lip" (do snakes even have lips)

so yeah try a
bussiness card
or
credit card

Seth,
I would not worry too much about hurting him if you are simply careful about the amount of pressure you apply. Keep in mind how wide they open their jaws. When I have to force fed a snake (which I am currently doing with a GBK) I use a pinkie head and simply wiggle it in. Sometimes the snake's mouth will appear crooked after a little prying. Once that happens, take advantage and go in at an angle. You should NOT need to use any great amount of force...simply pry it in.
Good Luck,
Jason
