Habits of my Tincs...

justin m Feb 25, 2004 08:30 PM

Since the death(cage escape) of my one juvenile tincs. The other one in the cage has not been as bold and also has been climbing the sides of the glass. I am getting another this weekend so I hope this will help. But are these behaviors normal? Just wondering...this is my first experience with dart frogs and am still learning....

I'v had my tincs for about a week and a half now, and they are also my first darts. They all climb the glass and it worried me at first, but they seem to be doing fine. They don't spend as much time on the glass as they did when I first got them, but one has chosen a specific spot on the glass towards the top of the tank to sleep at night. It goes there just before the lights go out while the other two head for their favorite spot under the overhang of a piece of driftwood. That seems like a more natural spot to me.

They also like to jump from the top of the tank rather than climb down. THAT really worried me. They mostly land on the damp sphagnum moss but as I was watching one landed on the driftwood, shook it off, and went right up the glass again!

Climbing the glass is probably good exercise for them also...

Sorry for the ramble...good luck with your tincs!

Hi: Are you going to quarrantine the new fella? Don't put him into the existing cage right away. Watch him for at least a month, some do even 3 months! If he is not well, you won't risk infecting your exsisting frog. When a male tank mate of my female Tinc. died suddenly, she started behaving strangely. Wouldn't sleep in the same place they'd sleep in together anymore. She seemed almost sad-not kidding. About 1-2 weeks after, she returned to normal. But I am looking for a new husband for her now. I understand how you feel.
