Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake

danielkremers Jun 09, 2003 09:56 PM

I just wanted to post a pic of a Massasauga I found during a rattlesnake "hunt" put on by our local herp club. These animals are exceedinly rare in upstate New York.

Did you find it in Cicero or Bergen Swamp? How were the black flies and skeeters treating you?

Cicero and the bugs were outrageous.

My neck of the woods. LOL...the bugs are going to be bad at either this year. Good thing for mosquito nets.

Nice shot,
I'm from the Buffalo, NY area. What part of upstate did you find that one in? You are right though, they are impossibly rare upstate.

Seeing this photo makes me understand why a woman called me about having one of these in yard-hit by her lawnmower-it wasn't one of these-but it's pattern was so close-without the head and all-what a mess-it was very dark (have photo) an Eastern Milksnake-not the usual E. Milksnake.

Thanks for this photo
