My 100% humidity uros

Flavia Guimaraes Feb 26, 2004 07:09 AM

Only to say that in spite of keeping my uros in a 100% humidity climate, they are doing great!
To people that dont know me i live in a very hot and humid country so heat is not a problem. During the dry season when the level of humidity is " only" 80% i keep my uros outdoors, in birds cages. During the rain season when the humidity level is 200% (lol) i keep them in the same birds cages but indoors.Besides that i keep a bowl of water inside both cages and my uros frequently fell inside that bowl of water.Although i had had my uros for several months already they are doing VERY well.So i think that the problem with Uros is cold and humidity but heat and humidity is not a big issue. Just my impression. Id like to add that i keep my beardie the same way. And my beardie is doing very well too!

you may be right, maybe if it's cold and humid they can't fight off the respiratory infection bacteria (they catch colds).

Even when they slept overnight under the rain (hot rain, tropical rain) the next day they were good as new! Not even a runny nose!Ill try to post a recent photo here so you can see how healthy they are!

In the rain, did their cage get wet, or were they under an eve or something?

They have a hiding place to hide when it starts to rain.In general i dont allow them to stay outdoors when it is rainning. The rains where i live although warm can be heavy(tropical storms) but 2 or 3 times they got a heavy rain that transformed their cages in a lake!Although my balcony is covered the storms in general are followed by strong winds that carry the rain everywhere! My uros look surprise when the warm water starts to fall on their faces but not displeased! Sometimes they dont even try to hide or to escape from the rain!
Besides that im always soaking my big boy Muffin in the bath tub.He had a very bad experience in the petshop he was before arriving home and when i bought him he was in a very bad shape. He is prone to become dehydrated so at least 2 times a week i give him a warm bath.He seems to enjoy the warm water on his belly!I dont give him insects or any kind of pellets and he is used to eat only iguana salads. He is doing great, he eats like crazy, he loves sweet corns and green beans and now he is more than 400 grs and looks like a couch potato!lol!
Thats why i dont understand why people say uros cannot stand humidity! Im treating my uros almost like i treat my iguanas! The only difference is that i dont put my iguanas indoors when it starts to rain!lol!

Yeah I keep mine outside here in Florida in the summer when it's very hot and very humid, and it rains every day. I just don't want them to drown or anything, I guess I'll have to get them something to climb onto.
