Pics of shipping Beardies

mr_velocity Feb 26, 2004 10:11 AM

This may sound a little silly but I am looking for pics of a beardie getting ready to be shipped. Here's why, we found a beardie we would like to purchase, since this is going to be my 8 year old son's dragon he is fully involved in all the decisions. The dragon has been nipped and is missing a few toes. He doesn't have a problem with that and said it would be ok. He truely cares for animals. He is concerned that the shipping experience will be bad for the beardie and that something may go wrong. Just explaining to him the process is not enough, remember he is 8, so I would like to show him some pictures of how they are shipped to reassure him that everything will be ok.

This isn't a full photo of the beardie in the shipping box but I hope it helps. I haven't shipped any beardies yet, only received some. I took this photo of Hollywood the minute he arrived. He was neatly packed in a clear plastic deli cup and surrounded with papertowels so he wouldn't slide all over the cup during transport. Then the deli cup was packed in a stryrofoam lined box with more papertowels and heat packs. The beardie arrived safe and sound and was even eating the same day he arrived. Talk about a stress free trip. I have JoelR to thank for that! I hope this photo will help ease your 8 year old's mind. Good luck with the new dragon! And don't forget to give your new beardie a good soak as soon as he arrives. He may need a drink.

It's a marking system that breeders use to keep track of which animal is which.

TNCBEARDIES.COM has a "how to" page on shipping. You can see how it is supposed to be done, step by step.

This pic was taken the instant his box was opened. If you look closely you can see it was a box within a padded box. In the outer box were heat pads to keep him warm, and it was marked "this side up/live animals" so he didn't get tossed around. He looked pretty comfy when he arrived, and was even bright in color!

Thanks for the pics, he's in bed now so I only got to show him the one pic. He is still very concerned and said there is too much that could happen to him. I'll show him the rest of the pics tomorrow and see if I can reassure him that everything will be ok. He wants to drive all the way from NJ to FL to pic up the beardie. If I can't convince him it will be OK then I'll have to find a breeder in NJ, NY or PA.

it might not be a "special beardie" like the one you mentioned that would really like a good home and owner that is as caring as your son.

I think given the choice, the beardie would choose to make the flight to have the chance at a life like that.

We have shipped all over the country and {knock on wood) never had a problem. If the breeder takes them to the shipping company late afternoon or evening, packs them well with padding, insulated boxes and heat packs, the babies usually are asleep before they leave the breeders hands and arrive to be delivered the next morning to his new home
