Grumpy and Dave questions

funkymonkey Feb 26, 2004 10:17 AM

Guys, Just got one of two questions about the above two little fella's.

Firstly Grumpy.

She has been gravid or what i am sure is gravid for 26 days now and there is now sign of her laying yet, she has stopped her mad eating and i assume just eats now and then now, certainly not as fat as i would have expected her to be.

She has got a few laying sights sorted, Ie i have made some for her with damp sand, soil and vermiculite, Is there anything wrong ??

Also Dave is giving the impression that he fancies a nap for a while. Have lost him 2 days in a row now, to find him in a little tunnel system he has dug himself under the sand.

Should i leave him in the Viv or take him out and maybe try to brumate him for a bit or what,
He didn;t end up brumating over the winter as he was a little too thin and also when i did try for a few days he stayed up and just peered out through the glass all he time.

With the other guys all seeming full of life and also having one thats gravid i cant turn out the viv lights so what do you recommend ???

taaaaaaaaaaaa

Congrats on having a gravid female. They can be really strange when they are gravid, but the lack of appetite is a great sign. That usually means they are very close to laying. If you see her spending lots of time scratching in one area, I suggest putting some deep sand in that area, and moistening it down. Sometimes they will just decide to lay wherever they want. Having some semi-damp sand here or there can save the eggs sometimes.

For your male, you could just move the lights to one end of the tank, and allow the other end, or portion of the end, get a few degrees cooler with not nearly as much light. He may just like to take a break, or he may decide to meander back over to the warm end. Keep offering water to all the lizards.

That's all I can think of.
