Klingenberg's or Mader's recommendations on Albon dosing...

veronicag Feb 26, 2004 11:24 AM

Does anyone have the information that was in a post a month or so back about how much Albon to give for coccidia and for how long? I should've written it down and now I can't find it in the search.

Thanks!

PLEASE NOTE: I am not advising others on medical treatment, I am copying what appears in these Doctors publications

Klingerberg's: (for treating high resistant coccidia, which is pretty much what we have here)

Sulfadimethoxine (Albon) is given orally, daily for three days, then every other day until the coccidia is eliminated. 2-6 weeks of treatment may be necessary for success, follow up fecal examinations should be done after treatment. (we have his entire recommended routine on our site)

Mader's book does not actually list one he recommends, but quote Wallach: 1 ounce of Sodium sulfamethazine per gallon of drinking water for 10 days (dose appropriate to weight). He also list IM meds( trimethoprim sulfadiazine} and states that if oral preparations are used, the treatment should be extended

Both recommend cleaning and good hygiene and isolation of potential infected animals.
