My veiled disappeared for about 6 hours in the laying chamber dirt. I finally decided that was too long. When I reached into the hole, it felt like it had collapsed. With much trepadation, I dug out the hole and found the female about 3/4 of the way down.

Apparently she had laid her eggs (they were perfect - we dug them up later), started to back out of the hole, and it collapsed.

So yes, I've read they are supposed to cover up the eggs, but from my experience I'd say retrieve your female if she is taking too long.
