Anaconda inquiry

ShiaKun Feb 26, 2004 02:01 PM

I have heard through the grapevine that even the tamest of Anacondas (yellow or green), ones that you've had for years, could potetntially strike without warning. Is there any truth to this? Has anybody had that experience? Or is it just when the snake is hungry? Thanks in advance!

` In my opinion, there is no species of snake that does not include individuals which will strike without warning. It's just that Anacondas are big and strong!
` To put a fine point on it, there is almost always warning, but sometimes it is very subtle. Sometimes it is you who gives the warning, not the snake. You've just got to heed it.
` If your concern is that you will be taken by surprise, it would make sense to keep only the smaller snakes. If you keep the smaller snakes, a bite is no big deal. If you're going to keep any giant constrictor, you must be prepared to deal with its potential.
` If you get lazy, or stupid, just for a moment, and it's the wrong moment, you could get good and dead.
