got my new/replacement beardie

hjk Feb 26, 2004 02:06 PM

I just recently had a beardie DOA that was sent to me. First time I have had any animals mailed to me. I just got the new beardie about an hour ago. He is so cute, nice purple sidebars with light body coloring. He is alittle sluggish though right now. But he is showing some "attitude". Cocking his head to the side looking at me and stuff. Isnt eating yet, just sits there under the light. Once I get the chance I will take pics and share them with everyone.

He was born the last week in Nov., so he is about 3 mths old. I just measured him, total length of about 11 1/2 inches; snout to vent is about 4 1/4 inches. He is more active now, but still hasnt really eaten yet. He is also shedding. He has very pretty brown markings with the dark (purplish) sidebars. I will get pics taken soon. He's very sweet. Likes to just sit on me.

The people I got him from told me the way he shipped the first one (with the sack) was a new way he was trying. He shipped this one in a small box with heat packs beside it and then in the styrofoam box.

Now to get this sweetie eating and everything will be great.

may not eat for several days, but most do after that, just keep the stimulus level low. Right now everything is new and different to him and that tends to make them more interested in their surrounding and not thinking of food.

Once he is settle in he should start eating fine, just keep a small amount of salad available in his enclosure and offer a few crickets to him each day.

We've started the past year, moving them to different enclosures and rooms to pre adjust them to change, and checking their weight daily when we do. Also having days they spend alone and not with their clutch groups. This past year each baby that traveled to a new home never missed a meal or stressed out, so we think it is working.

Best to you and your new baby.
