i'm active in animal rights & environmental stuff, and major organizations constantly use this site. it is totally legitimate, check it out. it's as good as it gets, in terms of online activism.

"animal rights" animal rights or animal welfare. I (and most others) dont like animal rights people, so if you are don't say anything that will start a flame war.

Sound good on the surface, but I do not think it would be a good idea. The animal rights groups are not our friends. The ultimate goal of most of them is to outlaw pet ownership. Any petition started would be used against us, in my opinion. I have seen this agrument before. These groups say that a pet shop cannot provide adequate care so how could the gemeral public. Just last year I went to a city council meeeting where they were trying to ban snake ownership. One council member had a report from the HSUS saying that snakes need uvb. So he concluded that they would need to be taken outside to get it. The bill was defeted and we could not get that report. It just goes to show the lengths that some of these groups will go to. At the same meeting he mentioned talking with a handler at the San Diego Zoo. Most zoos subscribe to the notion that reptiles should not be kept by the general public as well. I would just caution about what is done. There are enough people that are afraid of what we keep and we do not need to fan the flames.

the petition wasn't my idea. some other people, quite a few, were talking about it (i guess it would be on page 2 by now) & saying how impossible it sounded. i'm too much of a nihilist to actively pursue something like that myself. and i don't appreciate that 'roachey' guy attacking me like that. i've contributed a pretty good amount to this forum, and i'm obviously in favor of keeping leopard geckos. when i say animal rights, i mean testing, generally speaking. i am really angry about someone telling me 'not to say anything,' however, i'm going to drop it because there's no point.

i was all excited about sharing what my vet, dr. mark burgess, had told me about over-supplementing, and how it can commonly kill via mineralization of the internal organs. but now i'm not particularly in the mood to share.
