Female and egg-laying

Melle Feb 26, 2004 03:08 PM

Hello,

I mated one of my females to my male a couple weeks ago (this is my first attempt at breeding). I came home and saw that the female had dug a huge mound in the lay box so I am assuming she is ready to lay or has already. My question (okay its kind of a dumb one ) is, will she just leave the lay box after she's done? or will she hang out in there for a while? I guess I am asking because I want to get the egg(s) in the incubator as quick as possible, but I dont want to disturb her if she has not layed them yet (she is still in the lay box, sitting on top of the mound of ecoearth. have no idea if she has layed or not). I'm guessing I should just wait until she exits, correct? Thanks for any help!

Hi, when one of my females are digging a lot, I make sure to check the mound 2 times a day. Some of the females cover the eggs up completely, and one female (makes my job a lot easier) just digs a hole, lays, and leaves, making the eggs easy to find. She does that all in one sitting, lol. Good luck with the eggs!

definitely check, but make it quick so as to not stress her out if shes preparing to lay. Females will guard their eggs for quite a bit after they are laid, so dont wait for her to leave, your eggs will be goners by then.
