do you have sand for a substrate? If so it will smell pretty ripe after a while. One of the best reasons I don't like it. If not clean the tank well but save some poop. After it is cleaned and disenfected put the poop where you want them to go it usually works.

what do you use as a substrate

I use paper towels in my breeding tanks. I don't use any in the rubbermaid shoeboxes in my rack. I used calci-sand for about 3 months I found it hard to keep clean and it really stank after a while. I also used to have all the frills and decorations but really found it a pain in the rear-end after a while. After about 5 years of raising and breeding leos the paper towels and simple tanks make me and the leos happy. lol. I clean the shoeboxes every day to every other day depending on the mess I find they find their food eaisier without the towels. My big tanks I use towels because they are easy to change and keep clean though the adults are not quite the slobs that the little guys are.
