My best leo enclosure

Finnigan Feb 26, 2004 08:33 PM

I currently have 5 leos, and have had others in the past.

But this is my nicest leo enclosure. Believe it or not, it is a 33 gallon tank, and for one leo. His name is Crookshank, he is the first leo I ever hatched out and, without a doubt, my favorite herp.

Things to note in the pic (moving from left to right):

(Repti-ladder on far wall - can't be seen).
Zoo-Med UTH on rheostat under left third of the tank.
Repti-Hammock.
Under Hammock at bottom: half log (warm, dry hide)
Glad-lock container with terra-cotta pot on top of it .. combo humid hide and dry warm hide.
Another dry terra cotta hide (too small for him, too lazy to remove it!)
Food and water and calcium bowls.
Branches for climbing (and help support paper-towel roll tunnel).
Paper-towel roll tunnel connecting repti-hammocks.
Cool hide beneath far-right repti-hammock.
Paper-towel ladder up to hammock.
Decorative log.

Hope you don't mind if I steal your idea!!! I've been trying to think of some way to liven up my leos' lives.. never thought about hammocks, though.. *oh duh, right??*

Go ahead ...

People have said that they don't use the hammocks, but trust me, once they get used to them, they never get off.

Just like the tunnel I made ... It took Crooky weeks to even notice that it was there ... now he knows that its the only place I can't get to him! Plus the look on his face when he pops out the other side is hilarious! It says "Woah ... there's something on this side??"

Everything in Crooky's tank is fully used. Copy away and email me for tips!

I only have a 10 gallon tank for the one girl who stays at the school (class pet, thanks to Robin from Geckoheads and Geeks!!! )

So what I'm thinking I can is cut out (and hem up, of course) 1/4 of one my scarves (I measured it against the 10 gallon I have here).. then I suction cup it to the sides.. she has her log in there already.. stick in a smaller dooter tube for her to hide in that's parallel to the ground.. Get the bigger one for her "step ladder" to the scarf... That should be good, right?

LoL and, as an added bonus, the scarf is Blue & White - school colors. Total coincidence!

I have 3 leos in individual 10 gals and one in a nice 15 gal.

The repti-hammocks aren't terribly expensive.

What would worry me about the scarf is the little loops in the fabric. Could catch l'il leo's toes.

Want pics of the other tanks?

Only the 15 is "exciting" .. the rest are low on decoration, high on leo comfort.

Yeah that's why I'll hem it up - any loose loops (which there won't be, cuz they'll all be trimmed off) will be on the underside - where she can get to.

I'd like a reptihammock, and I'll get one prolly soon (my tax return comes really soon YAY!!!). How much do they cost, though? I'm poor lol Before I get one, I gotta invest in some more tanks!

Hmm..I'll have to steal it too...... ...lol. My leos would love it..Especially my male. I just put a hunk of driftwood in w/ him and he stands on it, and looks down at me(he's on top of my desk) while I'm on the computer like he's the king and I'm a worthless speck of dust!! lol!! ...(This speck of dust controls your food Oj, watch yourself!!) LoL. Dusty, I signed your guestbook.. !!

those little hammocks are pretty cheap. i think the small is only, like, $6 or so. and i bet one could make their own without too much trouble. and my girls pablo & lucretia love theirs. the great part is that they prefer to poop on it! that way, i can just spot-clean the hammock, and their tank stays clean a bit longer. though, if your geckos are very shy, they will use it more when you're not around (my mellow baskers are the ones that use theirs the most).

I have one for each of my crested geckos and i've put one in each of my leo tanks. Boo loves his....its the only place he can stand and reach the top of the tank.....thank goodness for locking tops LOL. The girls have one too that they always manage to get down off the glass. I think its because a few of them get on it at once...but i'm in the midst of redoing their tank after cleaning it out completely so i'm trying to figure out another way to get it to stick and not fall. I'll most likely silicone suction cups with the hooks in place of the suction cups that come with the hammock and then just hook the hammock to it. Still working out stuff but the tank should look amazing once i'm done
