Caging Questions

Everlight389 Feb 26, 2004 08:43 PM

Hello,

This weekend I'm going to get a Jungle Carpet from a local breeder, and I have a few questions:

1. The cage I built for him is 4'x2.5'x2.5', pretty big, but how large should my JCP be when I put him in there? Currently I'm going to guess that he's close to 2ft or so (about 7 months old), I've read that sometimes they don't do well in overly large enclosures, is mine too big right now?

2. Is I put a light in the top of his cage for heat, does it need to be protected with a wire box (or something to keep him out)? Or will they not mess with them?

Thanks

Hey, not real sure on the size question, but yes definatelly cover up that light so the snake can't get to it.

Yeah, I took a coffee can and cut off the top and bottom, covered the bottom with chicken wire.

Well, you can use the cage now, just give him plenty of hide spaces. A wide open cage for a snake is stressful if they can't hide.

That cage will last him a while too... Oh, don't put too much water in the bowl, they can drown if they arent careful
