Well, I have a sepearte question...

pspguy Feb 26, 2004 08:50 PM

...although at this point I guess I"m the scum of the Earth and no one will talk/answer me. Anyway, I have been trying to follow some suggestions posted on the board regarding feeding mealworms/super worms. The carrot/potato trick in the food dish doesn't seem to be working for me. They find their way out of the bowl, and poof they are off squeezing into every crevice they can find. Then the leos can't get to them. Any other options on this? I'm tired of fighting with the crickets, I want my leos to take the worms, but mine have this issue about coming out and eating while I'm around, so I'm stuck about what to do.

Since when were you the scum of the earth??

I have the very same problem with my mealworms. No matter how high the sides of my dish, they'll create the "mealworm-ladder" ugh.

Hehe what I did last night was toss the mealworms into the geckos' hide boxes - that way, the leos were eating in "privacy" but I could still watch - it's so cool lol.

Other than that, I dunno. I guess just turn the lights off before you put the worms in the bowl, then put them in and leave???

Good luck! If you find any solutions, I'd like to know!!

LOL, I'm the scum of the Earth from my topic a ways down dealing with this sickly leo I picked up and my "neglect" by not taking it to the vet and spending money for it to die. I guess no one understands my point of view, but that's okay I suppose. Thanks for the advice. LOL. I have 1 bowl in a tank now that the supers are staying in. The other tank where they've flown the coop I can't find them, so maybe he just ate those 3 really fast. I'm actually considering just waiting a week to resume feeding since I just moved alot of them to nicer quarters, and maybe they'll be more comfortable.

No no, lol. I was always told (because I worried when I would bring new leos home and they wouldn't eat), just to give them time to adjust. So I'm just wondering if that would give them time to get comfortable in their new homes without bothering them trying to force food on them, or having my hands in the tank every night... I'm not torturing any of my leos, they are my babies. LOL. I would never starve one that was sick. If it was that sick I'd euthanize it humanely, not starve it.

i was just joking but you should still offer it food the first day i brought mine home she ate.

Yeah i like to watch mine eat but if im not gonna be home that night i just leave them in the container. All the other times i just take out everything and put in some crickets ( 1 at a time ) and some mealworms and its fun to watch her eat.

Do your leos shake their tail then strike? i think its cool when mine does it

try getting a higher bowl or get one that is very slick so they cant climb on it if they try to they will just slide. i use the bottom of a butter cup ( the yellow container butter comes in not the candy...) it is about half an inch high and only 2 mealworms have gotten out.

Do you bury the bowl partially? I mean, not to quote someone else's post from the other day, but "my leos have the attention span of a gnat". I'm not sure they'll take the time or energy to climb up the side of a bowl to see whats inside, lol.

Its only 1/2 and inch high. I have a sub adult and her eyes are almost as high as the bowl and thats when shes laying down. plus she likes to step in it
