OK..if you are not new to this but new to these, this helps:
Keep them like green basilisks btu without a water bassin. And you can reduce tank size since they are smaller and less active 250-300g would be enough.
Which species do you keep?
L. serratus needs a dryer environment than L. longipes.

i have longpipes ingo. i have four of them in a 55 gallon aquarium. i'm going to make an extension for the top of it though (well, hubby is...heehee) anyway, you said something about NO water basin? why is that? i have a dishpan in there right now and they love it. they poop in it and i love that..lol

Hello Carrotfairy, Hi Ingo:
The usual species I see available is L. longipes. They are brought in with Forest Chameleons (Corytophanes cristatus). They are arboreal lizards as their build would suggest. I have had the best success with them when keeping them in densely planted terraria with some strategically placed branches to use for basking sites.
Sanseviaria (snake plants), climbing Philodendron, and thickets of Pothos can be used in the terrarium. Misting the cage with water at least once a day is also a good idea. grubs, mealworms, and crickets are all accepted food types. They will also eat flying insects like moths. Occasionally they accept pinkies as a food source.
Just remember that these lizards will do better if given secure places for them to move about in where you can't observe them. After a while they will come out into the open.
I hope this info helps a little.
Good Luck and Have A Great Day!!!

I just wanted to stress that a waterbassin is not a MUST as for Basiliscus. Of course they can have a water bassin. But most specimens will never use it, since they do not climb down. If yours do, I may suspect that your tank is not tall enough. I´d suggest to plan at least 4 ft tall, better more. Also they need dense foliage in the upper third of the tank to feel secure.

Hope that helps

Ingo
