Need help with baby male veiled!!

possumSLCity Feb 26, 2004 09:18 PM

I have a 3 month old baby veiled with eye problems. About a week ago, he started closing his left eye during the day for extend lengths of time. A few days ago, both eyes. Now when he tries to open his left eye, it buldges. Not eating as much, on account of it being hard to hunt with both eyes closed, but eats some. Humidity hangs at about 60-75%. Heat at 75 night and 85-90 day. Gut loading crickets with broccoli and carrots. Dusting crickets 3-4 times a week. I thought he may have some dust in his eye, but can't explain the buldging or why BOTH eyes are closed. Stress? Food? Water? Bought the cham from a local pet store, only a few days out of the breeder's. Sick? Repairable? Please help me if you can!!

Thanks,

1)Your night temps are too high.
2)Switch to a good gutload such as the one in the insect section of ww.adcham.com or the one sold by www.herpnutrition.com.
3)Is he getting UVB? What type of bulb?
4)You're probably over-sdupplementing.
5)How much is he getting hydrated? How is he getting hydrated? Does he get misted? IF so, for how long? Normal eye washing behavior requires AT LEAST 5-10 min. misting at a time.
6) And most importantly..... he needs to be seen by a vet ASAP.

Yeah, he does have a UVB 5.0. 12 hr. cycle
I mist with a bottle 2-3 times a day with luke-warm distilled water, and I have a 'Habba-Mister' on three hr. cycle spraying for 15 seconds, also distilled. Looking into a vet, just trying to find a good one with reptile exp. Just gave 'em a "shower."
Thanks for the feedback, and any more would be great!

P.S. What is optimal Night temp?

15 seconds isn't close to adequate. They need to have a mister going for 5-15 minutes at a time so they can go through their eye washing routine.

Hey there: I'm just new myself but I recall everyone telling me not to gutload with broccoli or Spinage since they are calcium binding. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

What else are good gut loading veggies/foods? Now I'm just stuck with carrots...
