oogieboogie Feb 26, 2004 09:31 PM

Can Nightcrawlers be used as a stable diet along with greens?

No I wouldn't. They are not as nutritionally sound as crickets or roaches. They are also able to spread disease easier. So I would not do it.

FOOD %PROT úT Ę %Phos KCAL/gm
mealworm 22.3 14.9 .26 .23 2.74
cricket 55.3 30.2 .23 .74 unk
earthworms 10.39 7.2 1.18 .90 4.71

Earthworms arent to far off in nutritional value compared to crickets. Only thing they lack in comprarison is protien. They have much more calcium, which is a good thing and a TON of less fat which is a good thing.

As for parasites ive been told that as long as you buy them from a place that supplies them for animal food and not for fishing then you are ok.

Any comments?

They can carry some kind of fungus, since they are like bottom feeders. They eat dirt and other yuckies to get their nutrition, then expel it. Nothing I'd want a BD to eat.

I give them to my frogs, and I used to give them to my Mountain horned dragon, she loved them.

Like I say they are high in calcuim, but because of the parasite thing, I would not do it !

Its ok for frogs to eat and Mountain dragons but not a Bearded Dragon? Not quite sure I understand the logic there.

From what ive read the parasites are only a problem if you get worms that are bread for fishing?

beardies,
I'm saying I always fed them to my MHD and frogs, they love them. But have recently heard they have parasites.

So as a staple I would not use them. I would actually like to look more into them, because my Bullfrog loves them,

If ya ever hang on the Mountain Horned Dragon site, they all give them to the dragons because for the calcium !

I was just telling yu both things I've heard. I personally would NOT use them exclusively. (Got what I'm saying Oogie LOL?)

Do some investigating, hehehehhhe !!! Let me know your findings.

Eve
