Just thought I'd post a few pics of of my king. I found her on the road last summer litterally 3 seconds away from getting run over. She's finally gotten a taste for pinkies and is on a nice growth spurt, she's about 18" now.

But it looks like a normal eastern- not a black. Where did you find it?
Van
south of Atlanta. I'm not positive of the exact species, I was just guessing from the pictures I saw online. Do you think it's a regular Eastern King?
Black kings are mostly found west of the appalachian mountains. In Georgia, they are only found in the northwest corner between Alabama and Tennesee. Thats a typical eastern chain, but no less of a snake by far!

Hmmm, guess I better change the name's of the pics, thanks!
Hey nice looking snake . You can really notice those Easterns found closer to Nigra as their crossbars really get thin. What's the county you captured that snake in ? Can you get some more naturalistic shots of that snake ? I would love to include it on my website (click on the link below).
Regards,
if they want, i can meet them and take some hi-res shots for you, as i too am compiling shots of north, ga locality kings. they are really fascinating in this region

Good idea ! If they want to do this that would be awesome. Are you putting up a Site ? I tell ya since I started the website the area that has me moost fascinated is Georgia I just cant believe how diverse and beautiful the Kings are in that state. A regular contributor to my site just sent me a handfull of GA Eastern King pics and all from localities I didnt have represented which is pretty cool. One was a Cherokee Co animal that is obvioulsy a natural intergrade between Nigra and Getula. Im redoing my whole site so they wont be up until the site is done which should be soon. Good luck on your project I cant wait to see what you do !
yep, im on the cherokee/cobb line, and wow. wow is all i can say about these kings. im talking dorsal stripes, kieth. really rare and aberrant patterns. these snakes are my passion, and its a damn shame ga law say i cant have one. go figuire. oh well, ill capture them with the camera!
greg
I found him in Fayette county. I can take some close-up outdoor pictures of him this weekend. I may wait though, he should be ready to shed within a week.
"not to mention their tendancy for getting BIG ! "
lol, I've seen quite a few of them around here. Here's one my neighbor has in his yard. We caught it last summer to take some pictures then released it back near the creek on his property, I'm sure he'll be around in the spring again. It was between 4' and 5' I'd guess.
I remember seeing them years ago, they had that N.Florida influence but the scales were NOT tipped.....they were chestnut colored. Most had banding resembling cal kings but they were definately wc from GA.The only other "reddish"one I have seen was sold to me by CHUCK THE SNAKE MAN about 10 years ago as a VA outerbanks king....thinking about it now it could have been a HYPO....who knows now.
very similiar ssp. espcially as neonates,w/nigra ive noticed there is more speckling and the bands arent AS prominent(some are!),but all fades away w/nigra resulting in a coalblack king as an adult,my line originate from huntsville ala.also much smaller han the "chain"kings as adults nigra top out at about 50inches or so chains (esp.GA.!) just keep going, and going, great looking snake

wow! they are very similar. Great looking snakes there
That has a unique pattern with differing crossbars and a white belly(from what it looks). If it does have a white belly it MUCH more of an interesting animal, nice just as is though!Jeff
Sure! Here ya go... It's actually more of a lime green/yellow color. This pic is from a few months back, she loves just floating in the water.
