HELP pls.. picture of dragon stool with concerns

gila-x Feb 26, 2004 11:42 PM

hi i noticed something weird in my dragons stool tonight... i attached a picture as example. There are lots of these oblong objects in the stool but I wasn't sure if it was worm eggs or just parts of crickets. I feel crickets and lots of green. any help would be appreciated. this picture is me spreading the stool apart it's not under a microscope or anything.

Unless I'm missing something, that doesn't even resemble dragon poop. (It looks like slimey rice to me). You need to take that dragon and a sample (or the picture that you posted if nothing else) to a vet ASAP. Like tomarrow. Something seems drastically wrong. I've never seen anything like that.

Upon looking at it closer, it's undigested cricket legs. Check you temps, where ever the dragon basks needs to be above 100 degrees. Aim for 110 or so and let the dragon decide.

Hi, thanks for answering.

I should have mentioned earlier.. the stool itself came out completely normal and was hard and round... i took a stick and smeared it apart to take a look at what was inside because I have heard so many bad things about parasites and I wanted to see what i might find and i was freaking out. that's why the stool is all spread aroudn like that i did that.. coming out of the dragon it was round and hard.

Temps are good they are like 106 or so under the bulb, 98 or so on the hot end, and around 90's on the cool side for most of the day and then at night in the mid 70's.

I was thinking it was crix legs too, but she eats full grown crix and it looked to small and perfect. Maybe it's just the one part of the crix legs? i'm sorry to be a moron i'm just really freaking out i don't want my dragon sick.

Thanks!

I'd still get a fecal done..Especially if basking temp is 106, that should be fine.

Actually, to me that looks like throw up. Ocassionally when a dragon eats too much, they will regurgitate it, I have had it happen once or twice. That is what it looks like to me.

no, it was a stool because when it came out it was perfectly round and hard just like a normal stool would look. It only looks like that in the picture because I smeared it around with a stick to see if i could see anything bc of the recent posts about parasites.

I'm no vet, but from having critters, those rice like objects sure look like worms (eggs) and alot of undigested stuff !

Rice shaped eggs are usually tapeworms.

But I would go to the vet and get a fecal done.

Maybe I'm going blind, LOL, but thats what it looks like to me !

things move at all. Not crawl, just jerk alittle. Touch it with a stick or something, LOL and watch closely. Just curious

Also has your dragon been eating any mice ??????

no, no mice or anything.. just the regular diet. I did poke around with them to see if they did that and nothing moved. I thought it was worms too or something and it freaked me out.

After Joey's post I looked at a cricket and it does look like it's part of crix legs where there is the extension.

Christyj Feb 27, 2004 08:13 AM

What is your beardies diet, out of curiosity?
What type of greens?
Agree, vet check is in order...

crickets daily dusted with repcal and greens every day to two days depending on my schedule. The greens are mustard greens, turnip greens, and collard greens. Occasionally I feed her some super worms but i'm cautious about that because someone told me that could cause impaction if fed too many.

We are all concerned for your dragon. After you get your dragon checked out by a good reptile Vet could you please repost pic and results of Vet visit. Just in case any of us come into contact with the same thing
THANX

We raise our own crickets and what you see in the stool sample look just like our crickets eggs. They didn't get digested along with the other cricket parts. Your dragon probably ate a large female that hadn't layed her eggs yet.
