My Kingsnake has been spending time in his water dish. I have never seen him do this before. Should I be concerned?

Could mean he has mites - check the water bowl for brown/black specs. Also it could mean he is getting ready to shed. Snakes like to be in water before shedding since it helps loosen the skin. THere is no need to worry if the snake is just using it for shedding and not that it has mites. However, you do need to be cautious that he doesn't develop blisters or scale rot from remaining in wet areas too long. Check his skin regularly for these. You may need to get a smaller water bowel if you find he is spending time in it for longer than a week.
