Where do I put the holes?

Tigergenesis Feb 27, 2004 09:05 AM

I've got a sterilite tub that I plan to use as a quarantine/holding/feeding cage for snakes. Everything's all set up, except I'm not sure where, how many and how to make the ventilation holes. I can't remember how many quarts it is, but the dimensions are: 20Lx12Wx12H

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

There is no magic number of holes, but put enough to where the cage has ventilation but not too many to compromise the strength of the box.

I use a Uni-bit and put in holes of diameter 3/16" on the box front and along the sides, about every 1 1/2 inches or so. You can do what you want though. I also tend to put more holes for colubrids and less for boas/pythons.

Well, I started with 1/2 inch holes every 4 inches - that's 3 on the short sides and 5 on the long sides.

Should I add more holes or leave it alone?

I hope the snake's head is larger than that. Yeah, I'd say that is plenty.
