What's your favorite gecko? - Survey

boidsntegus Feb 27, 2004 09:20 AM

Hello everyone, this is my first posting in this forum. I have a few herps already, see signature. I have an unused 35 gallon aquarium and am considering adding a gecko to my collection. I know everyone will have different opinions, but I figured I would still ask everyone's opinion. I was thinking along the lines of a crested or a leopard, but probably the crested. I love that head and those eyes! Anyway, here goes:

1) What kind of gecko(s) do you have and what is your favorite?
2) What is the enclosure size?
3) Relative humidity
4) Temps (warm side, cool side, basking)
5) Feeding items and schedules (babies and adults)
6) Temperments (docile, shy, nippy)
7) Intelligence? (do they interact, etc.)
8) Good captive breeder in the US to purchase one from?

Thanks in advance for reading this and for everyone's great input.

My favorite is Phelsuma species. Being diurnal, small, etc. Its hard not to love em.

2) What is the enclosure size?

Id say a minium of 20 gallons for this species.Taller is better.

3) Relative humidity

60-80%

4) Temps (warm side, cool side, basking)

28-31C Warm 25-27C Cool

5) Feeding items and schedules (babies and adults)

Adults - twice weekly, mix of fruit and crickets/worms
Babies - daily
6) Temperments (docile, shy, nippy)

Skittish but sometimes bold, are always out.

7) Intelligence? (do they interact, etc.)

Very much sp =)

8) Good captive breeder in the US to purchase one from?

Gecko ranch and the kingnsnake classifieds is a place to start.

Hope this helps, good luck.
BTW- ive kept both cresteds and leos; very cool geckos also! Cresteds are very cool looking.
