First Clutch sizes...everybody tell me what you get from first-timer females

snakepimp Feb 27, 2004 09:26 AM

I mated a ghost female to my lavender male. Both were first year breeders. She layed a clutch of 16 fertile eggs last night. Is this a common size for a first year clutch? Will have pics of the clutch later.

My snow and okeetee last year were first timers also, and she layed 15 and all appeared fertile. I accidentaly dried out two of the eggs in my home made incubator, (get a hovabator for 35$ , well worth it!)but the other 13 are alive and well

Good Luck! I'm hoping Ruby lays her eggs soon here, she's plump and uncoordinated, just like last year When they're fat with eggs, the back half or two thirds is much less "stable" than usual. If I don't make sure she's all the way on my arm, and her back half is hanging, it's almost like she can't pull it up, where normally she pulls it up and wraps it around my arm as an anchor. Also last year she layed with the full moon, and she's due for a shed any day here, so I'm hoping (sort of expecting) her to lay this clutch around march 8th

Interesting...My snow's first clutch, laid 4 days ago, was 16 eggs. They all appear viable. It must be pretty much average considering you see so many predictions on offspring expressed in 1/16's.

last year i had 3 first time females and got 12, 12, and 15 from them i think it may have to do with the male too though. it was the male's first time as well and he bred the female who laid the 15 eggs clutch first and then the other two so that could be a factor as well Good Luck w/ them!
