"Thousands of hermit crabs are sold to tourists in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and destined to spend their lives inside glass tanks—bored, lonely, and far from their real homes in the South. Herman was one of them (you could tell by his painted shell), but a PETA staffer’s daughter found him wandering around on the roadside and rescued him. Luckily for Herman, another PETA staffer was heading down to Florida and agreed to take Herman along so that he could live out his life where he belongs … in the warm sand and surf!"

That quote was right off of the PETA kids site, petakids.com, yep they're after our kids again!

Apparently PETA supports taking your captive herps and simply letting them go among the wild population. Now maybe I'm wrong here, but I doubt it, doesn't releasing a captive animal into the wild present far more dangers to both the one being released and the wild population? How do they know that this hermit crab wasn't captive bred? All they know is it had a painted shell and was on the road. So they're telling kids it's good to release your captive animal into the wild.

Hope this doesn't violate the TOS, because it's not a snake, but it is in a round about way...

So what were you doing on the PETA kids website Dianne? lol
I saw a bumper sticker today that said 'PETA - People Eating Tasty Animals' hehe.
That really makes me wonder who the people are that release herps into the outside world that, if they're lucky, end up at a rescue org. Hmmm...

There was a whole website about PETA's bad news that used to be peta.org, until PETA filed a clain with the domain company claiming they OWNED the name PETA, his site was People eating Tasty Animals, or PeTA lol, I thought the site was great, but he had to move it to a different address because of PETA, and is still fighting for the url. I don't know the current url, or i'd give it out. They used to sell shirts and coffee mugs that said that too, I almost bought one, but when i went back to get it, PETA had forced InterNIC to take down his site. It was a lot like animalscam.com, only with way more political satyre towards PETA.

I'm still planning on making my own shirt that says it though

I was on PETA's site because they're monitoring us, so I'm monitoring them! It's really sick, they have this cartoon on there called the meatrix, and it shows about family farms being scrunched into big corporate farms, but then instead of talking about buying free range, it sends you to the page where they sell the PETA vegitarian starter kit. And this is on the petakids.com page!

Another one to watch out for is to PCRM, who claim their a physicians group, but only 5% of thier members are physicians. They're the ones who have been banning soda at schools, and pushed "meatless monday" in some california schools. But then wouldn't help out with alternative foods for the kids that day. They're also the ones responsible for falsely blaming Atkin's death on his diet, it was a virus.

That's all ridiculous.

>>pushed "meatless monday" in some california schools

Mmmmm.. yeah, I sure remember how much I just loved school vegetables.. lol. I remember about 10 of us kids eating ONLY the meat.

I did a search for those kind of websites, there's alot! There are also a few links for the anti merchandise AND there's also a version called PWEETA (people who enjoy eating tasty animals).
To kind of get back on topic, I got a new baby amel today, woohoo!

I won't be able to get pics for a few weeks, unfortunately I let a friend borrow my digi cam to take to Texas. I do have a webcam but the quality of that almost isn't worth it.

Funny you should post that, as I just came across that tidbit today :P

Apparently the 'issue' is that hermit crabs cannot be bred in captivity, suggesting that any crab acquired in the pet trade has been taken from the wild. Something I don't agree with, although knowing the PETA's hypocritical "antics", I don't know how true that really is.
