Newbie feeding ?

buffysmom Feb 27, 2004 12:01 PM

My snake Fuzzy hatched in 9/03, is about 15 inches long & around 15 grams. He's been eating pinks & last night ate 2. I feed him about every 5 days & he eats right away. Should I move up to fuzzies? If I switch to fuzzies, should I keep feeding every 5 days, or up it to every 7?
Thanks!

Fuzzies stick with them a little longer than pinks I think. But even my hatchlings on pinks only eat once a week.

I think the general consensus is once a week when they start taking fuzzies.

I waited till my corns were eating 3 pinks before I switched to fuzzies. Too big a meal will make them regurge. I tried my amel on fuzzies when she was about that size and she regurged up the remains. So I put her back on pinkies till she was a bit bigger. Both my amel and ghost are on 2 fuzzies every 6-7 days.

My snakes of similar size are on large pinks. I've always fed once a week. My snakes are not as large as many other people's that post here, but all are healthy and doing well. My 02s range from 160 grams to 190 grams, and my 03s range from 15 to 30 grams. I may never breed so I'm not in any hurry for them to grow big and fat. I buy my mice from a local breeder who sells all sizes. It's a lot easier when you have six different sizes of mice in the freezer to choose from.

This is very true. I suggest you wait until they can eat 3 pinkies with no problems before switching to fuzzies. My amel is about 20 inches and when given a fuzzie he regurged, which led to another regurge 8 days later. Don't rush it, it's very agrivating trying to nurse them back to their usual meals once they start regurgitating.
