borneo short tail care... appreciate all input...

smckenna9 Feb 27, 2004 12:19 PM

hey, i would appreciate any help you guys can provide:
i am going to get a borneo-short tail (probably male) this summer... and in terms of caging, heating, etc., i just want to make sure everything sounds good to you guys: as an adult, i will have a 36 inch long by 28 inch deep vision cage (#332). however, as a baby, i plan to move from a 10 gallon to a 20 gallon as he grows. for substrate, i am going to use newspaper or, for aesthetics, cypress. i plan on keeping ambient temp around 80-82, hot spot (by undertank heater) around 92, a medium sized water bowl to allow dipping, and two hide spots-- one for humidity with sphagnum moss and the other in the hot spot. ambient humidity around 65%. any input at all would be appreciated. thanks a lot.

Shawn,

When there babies, rubbermaid containers work very well to keep humidity and temps. Rubbermaids are also very cheap. I prefer paper towels for babies but newspaper is ok too. If you use mulchh in a rubbermaid it tends to raise humidity too much... And humidity should be between 70 and 80 percent
