Large anaconda photos...

Kelly_Haller Feb 27, 2004 12:58 PM

There was a request not long ago for photos of larger anacondas. I have put together some that have been taken over the last couple of years. I am definitely not the best photographer and some of these were either out of focus, taken through glass, shot in poor light, and/or are digital captures from slides. Either way I apologize for the quality of some of the photos. The first photo is better as it was the one taken by Jud and is of his adult male. As you can see, his wife and daughter were more than happy to hold him for his portrait. This male is an incredible snake and is the one I always talk about as being the most docile boid, of any species, I have ever seen. He is also an outstanding breeder and fathered litters in 2001 and 2003. His length was accurately measured at 11.5 feet last year. The next photo is the female that produced the 2003 litter. She is too heavy to lift by myself, so I just lifted about the first half of her out of the unit and had my son take the shot. She is also quite docile and has never been a problem, although when taken out, she always tries to move up around my shoulders for support. She is still a little underweight from having her litter last November. I have also included photos of the other female that produced the 2001 litter along with some breeding related photos. Both of the females were around 13 feet when the photos were taken. All of these anacondas were acquired as newborns and all have been docile and completely problem free snakes. I have maintained many different pythons and boas, and have found anacondas to be one of the most remarkably unique snakes of the boid group, showing behavioral aspects that put them in a class by themselves. Thanks,

Kelly
